The Stübben Flower Ring is a bitless hackamore: a padded leather noseband with stainless steel rings, and no mouthpiece. The aids arrive on the nose and, to a slight extent, on the poll. We stock it in Pony and Full, in Black and Ebony; Tobacco we have in Full only. About this hackamore What sets this model apart are the rings. Stübben states that the various rings and strap options allow individual pressure regulation on the nose, together with a light leverage effect on the poll. So you tune the action without swapping to other equipment. The manufacturer does not state values per setting; which setting works for your horse is something you try out calmly. The noseband is softly padded leather and you adjust the fit with the chin strap. For choosing a size, Stübben measures the circumference of the nose, roughly two fingers below the cheekbone — place the noseband at that same height afterwards. For materials Stübben states stainless steel and leather. Which grade of steel, which leather and which material sits behind the padding, the manufacturer does not specify, and it does not state the length of the rings either. Care is straightforward: wipe the leather with a damp cloth and mild saddle soap, then feed it with a leather conditioner, and wipe the metal parts and rub them thoroughly dry so that no rust or residue is left behind. Bitless is not automatically milder. Stübben notes that with this product itself: any bit can cause pain — a bitless version included — when it is used roughly or without proper judgement. Pressure on the nose acts differently from pressure in the mouth, so give your horse a settling-in period somewhere it knows and ride with quiet, short aids to begin with. Within our range this is the variable one of the two Stübben hackamores: no fixed shanks, but rings and strap options. If you want fixed shanks with leverage, the Stübben Hackamore Steeltec is the more classic choice. If you want to ride bitless without leverage, look at a bitless bridle that works only sideways or across. And for dressage tests you need a bit: a snaffle or a double bridle is generally prescribed there — check your own federation's rulebook. Maddelin is the ultimate equestrian store! .
